Gasmann Coulee Cruisers is a volunteer snowmobile club based in Burlington, North Dakota, just northwest of Minot. The club is one of four that maintain the Sno-Trails system, a network of nearly 376 miles of groomed and marked snowmobile trail in north central North Dakota. If you ride around Minot, you are riding on trail that clubs like this one sign, groom and maintain.

The Sno-Trails System

Sno-Trails is one of fourteen state snowmobile trail systems overseen by Snowmobile North Dakota. It covers parts of Ward, Renville, McHenry and Bottineau counties and links a string of towns across the region, including Burlington, Foxholm, Carpio, Minot, Deering, Lansford, Berthold, Surrey, Sawyer, Velva, Granville, Upham, Kramer, Towner and Glenburn.

Individual trails within the system carry the names of the towns they serve, such as the Burlington Trail, Minot Trail, Foxholm Trail, Velva Trail and Glenburn Trail. The system also connects to two neighboring networks, the North Central Trail and the Peace Garden Trail, which reaches up into the Turtle Mountains and the International Peace Garden on the Canadian border. That means a rider starting near Burlington can cover a lot of ground without trailering.

Gasmann Coulee Cruisers shares the work of the system with three other clubs: Dakota Trailblazers and Magic City Driftbusters in Minot, and Mouse River Sled Runners in Towner.

Snow Comes First

North Dakota trails only open when there is enough snow to groom safely, and trail status can change quickly. Snowmobile North Dakota posts current conditions for the Sno-Trails system, including snow depth, recent snowfall and whether trails are open or closed. Check it before every ride, since sections can close for the season or stay unsigned in a thin year.

Getting Involved

Like every snowmobile club in the state, Gasmann Coulee Cruisers runs on volunteers and memberships. Membership support and volunteer hours pay for signs, grooming and landowner relations, and without that support the trails simply do not exist. The club has also been active at the state level and hosted the Snowmobile North Dakota annual convention in Minot.
