About Rolling Plains Motor Speedway

Rolling Plains Motor Speedway, known to most racers as RPM Speedway, is a 3/8 mile high banked clay oval at 1344 Fairground Road in Hays, Kansas. It opened in 2006, runs IMCA racing from spring into October, and is home of the IMCA Fall Nationals, a season ending event that draws more than 200 race teams from ten states and Canada. The grandstand seats more than 4,000, which makes it one of the larger dirt facilities in western Kansas.

Home of the Fall Nationals

The Fall Nationals are the reason this track is known well beyond Ellis County. The event runs over several days in early October, with a practice night followed by racing nights and a championship finale, and it has grown into one of the biggest IMCA gatherings in the country. The 2026 running is the 20th.

All five IMCA weekly classes race for Fall Nationals titles, and the REVIVAL Super Dirt Series brings late models in to share the weekend. With more than 200 teams in the pits, the fields are deep and the heat races alone are worth the ticket.

The season opens with its own big event. The Sunflower Classic kicks things off in the spring, and the 2026 edition drew 145 race teams, which says a lot about how far drivers will travel to open their season at Hays.

Weekly Racing

The weekly program runs five IMCA classes: Modifieds, Stock Cars, Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks and Sport Compacts. A Cruisers class has also run as a local division. The season runs from April through October.

Sprint cars appear on the schedule too, with NCRA 360 sprints and URSS 305 sprints on selected nights. School bus races have become a crowd favorite, and they are exactly as chaotic as they sound.

A typical race night opens the pits at 4:00, the grandstands at 5:00, hot laps at 6:00 and racing at 7:00. Children under 12 get in free, and special shows are priced slightly higher than a regular night.

The track has had some well known visitors over the years, including NASCAR drivers Ken Schrader and Clint Bowyer.

More Than Racing

The facility gets used for much more than oval racing. Concerts, tractor pulls, demolition derbies, tough truck contests and motorcycle events have all been held here, so the calendar is worth checking even outside the racing season.

The grounds have restrooms, concessions and a souvenir shop.

Getting There

The track is on Fairground Road in Hays, right off I-70 in northwest Kansas, roughly halfway between Salina and the Colorado line. That interstate access is part of why drivers from so many states make the trip for the big events.
